Jessica Chaveiro scored with one second left in regulaion and then came through with the golden goal in overtime as the Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies won the Region XIV soccer championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday.

TJC rallied from a 2-0 deficit to score a 3-2 victory over rival Navarro College at Pat Hartley Field.

The No. 7 Apache Ladies (17-2-1) advance to the District I championship Nov. 4-6 in Hillsboro.

The winner of the district championship advances to the national tournament scheduled for Nov. 14-19 in Melbourne, Florida.

Navarro (13-5) took a 2-0 lead as Shantell Thompson and Margriet Samsom scored goals. Melissa Hamilton had the assist on the Samsom goal.

With 25:10 to go, TJC’s Brittney Daley scored to pull the Apache Ladies within 2-1. Then with a second to go, Chaverio found the back of the net.

With 2:18 remaining in the extra period, Chaverio scored again for the game-winner.

SMOKE SIGNALS: TJC’s football playoff game with Kilgore College is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore.
