Nacogdoches Central Heights used two four-run innings en route to a 12-4 win over Edgewood on Saturday at Mike Carter Field, and a sweep of their Class 2A Region III semifinal baseball series.
The Blue Devils won the first game 2-1 in 10 innings on Thursday at Mike Carter Field.
Central Heights will now play Elkhart next in the regional finals with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
The Devils opened the first inning with a leadoff triple by Hunter Haley, followed by a Hayden Summers walk.
Alex Phillips then took the first pitch he saw and blasted it over the left field wall for a Devils lead of 3-0 lead. Phillips had five RBIs for the game.
The Blue Devils were not through in the first. After one out Dustin Shoemaker singled and later advanced to third on an Edgewood error. He scored on a safety squeezed bunt by Hunter Williams for a 4-0 advantage.
Edgewood pushed across one run in the first and fourth innings, Trey Jameson singled to left to score Justin Bundy after he had singled in the first.
Edgewood loaded the bases in the fourth with a Colton Benton walk and a double by Jakeb Hunter, followed with hit-by-pitch of Davy Foster. Bundy’s sacrifice fly scored Benton to cut the lead 6-2, but the Bulldogs left the other two runners stranded as Haley struck out the next two hitters.
Dustin Shoemaker had three hits and David Abel added two hits with a double for the Blue Devils.
The Bulldogs were led on the offensive side by Hunter’s two doubles.
