Editor’s Note: The following is a question-and-answer with Dylan Cantrell, the Whitehouse Wildcats standout senior wide receiver. In Friday night’s 29-27 win over Carthage, the Texas Tech commit had six catches for 70 yards. On the season, he has 28 catches for 558 yards and seven touchdowns.
The 5-0 Wildcats have a bye this week before opening District 16-4A play on Oct. 12 against the Lindale Eagles. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
Cantrell will share his thoughts during the football season with sports editor Phil Hicks. If you have a question for Dylan, send to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hicks: How was it playing on the road against a good team? Do these types of games prepare you and your team for district?
Cantrell: I like playing teams that test us both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. When you play a team like Carthage you know you’re going to be in for a fight until the last play. I feel we are a much better team after playing them. After a game like that it shows us what we need to improve on.
Hicks: As we approach the midway point of the regular season, there are only 131 unbeaten high school teams throughout Texas, how does it feel to be one of those schools?
Cantrell: Being undefeated is a great feeling. We are the only team in our district who can say that. I think we are getting better every week. Our defense is playing great and that is the big difference this year compared to last year.
Hicks: The Wildcats have a bye this week. What is your routine during a bye week?
Cantrell: We will treat this week like any other. It is nice to get an extra week to prepare for our first district game against Lindale. Bye weeks give us a chance to get everyone back to 100 percent. I am really looking forward to starting district play. I know we are going to do big things this year. Finishing preseason 5-0 is just the beginning.
