COMMERCE — The Brownsboro Bears had the misfortune of playing Dallas Triple A Academy, the top-ranked Class 4A team in the state, in Friday's Region II boys basketball semifinal at The Field House on the Texas A&M-Commerce campus.

Dallas Triple A showed why it is ranked No. 1, overpowering Brownsboro, 83-59.

The loss completes Brownsboro's season at 34-5.

The Bears (34-5) season ender mirrored last year's playoff run when Brownsboro was stopped by Frisco Lone Star in the regional semifinals, 57-40.

Baylor signee King McClure was just too much to contend with. McClure scored a game-high 40 points for Dallas Triple A before retiring at the two-minute mark with a 78-51 lead. He scored 20 in each half.

Triple A used a full-court press and high percentage shots to open up an 11-4 gap early. The Stallions ran the score to a 10-point lead in the opening quarter on a free throw by McClure for a 16-6 count with 2:21 left in the quarter.

The future Baylor Bear kept his roll on with another bucket at the 2:03 mark before halftime for a 45-23 cushion.

Three-pointers by Clay McCoy, Logan Compton and Kenneth Woods in the first half kept the Bears within reach as 12 first-half turnovers played into Brownsboro's demise.

Bear Chris Givens gave his team some momentum, scoring eight of his 10 points in the third quarter. McClure got help from Tyler Singleton for the Stallions as Bears won the quarter 19-15, but trailed in the game, 60-42.

Brownsboro made one last run to get the score within 11 points after a Tamerick Pace 3-pointer to make it 70-59.

McClure responded with 10 points, along with a trey by Greg Smith and four free throws by big-man Dalyn Mumphrey to seal the Triple A victory.

Pace finished with 20 points to lead the Bears in scoring while Chris Givens swished two treys, and Xavier Richardson and Kenneth Woods each scored nine points in the loss.

No. 1 Triple A Academy and No. 3 Dallas-Madison, last year's state champion, now meet Saturday in the Region II championship.

Madison beat Paris 55-50 in the other region semifinal.
