Defending district champion Brook Hill cruised through its first three TAPPS 3A District 4 matches, posting wins over Richardson Canyon Creek, Dallas First Baptist and Yavneh Academy.

On Tuesday, the Lady Guard suffered their first district loss in two years, falling in four games to McKinney Christian. McKinney (4-0 in district) defeated Brook Hill, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14, 25-23 to drop the Lady Guard to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in district.

“After going unbeaten in district last year we knew we were going to be up against a tougher (schedule) this year,” said Guard coach Ricky Clements. “On Tuesday we had trouble with serve receive and that is one thing we are going to work on in preparation for our next match.”

Leading Brook Hill thus far is junior Samantha Anderson (103 kills and 45 blocks) and sophomore Charlie Niles (107 assists, 32 kills, 9 aces).

The Guard have an open date Thursday before returning to district play on Tuesday, Sept. 24 against Dallas Lutheran. The varsity is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Lutheran School.
