KILGORE — Brazos Valley used a pair of three-run homers to pull away from East Texas, 12-1, in TCL baseball action Wednesday night at Driller Park.
Lubbock Christian University’s Brett Kauten supplied a three-run homer in the sixth inning and Paris JC’s G.R. Hinsley matched him in the eighth for the commanding win.
The league-leading Bombers (10-1) combined for eight runs in the second and sixth innings to sweep the Pump Jacks (4-7), one night after rallying from five runs down in an 11-7 victory.
East Texas, which has dropped five consecutive games, heads to Louisiana today to meet the Acadiana Cane Cutters for a two-game set. The Pump Jacks return home Friday and Saturday against the Texas Generals.
East Texas’ only run came on a solo homer by University of Texas’ Ty Marlow in the eighth.
After being held scoreless in the first, Brazos Valley scored four times in the second on four hits and left two aboard. The Bombers got RBI singles during the inning from Cisco JC’s Patrick McLendon, Northwood U’s Herb Romero and Cal State Northridge’s Alexis Mercado.
In the four-run sixth, Kauten’s homer followed an RBI double by Mercado as Brazos Valley started to pull away.
