WILLS POINT — Early in the third quarter of Friday night’s Class 3A Region II area basketball playoff, the Kilgore Bulldogs found themselves in a dilemma, trailing by nine points after leading the Paris Wildcats throughout much of the first half.

Paced by a huge second half from the sophomore duo of Trey Conrod and Nick Orange, Kilgore rallied for a 52-50 win over Paris (21-9).

Conrod led the way with a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double for Kilgore (16-14). Eighteen of the sophomore’s points came in the second half. Orange followed suit, posting all eight of his points in the second half while dishing out three assists.

Fellow sophomore Xavier Gaona finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for Kilgore, who advance to the regional quarterfinal round to face off against Liberty-Eylau.

Waco Robinson ends Palestine’s season, 67-51

CORSICANA — The Waco Robinson Rockets showed their class Friday as they rolled to a 67-51 win over Palestine in the area round of the playoffs at Corsicana High School.

Robinson used two big first half runs to give itself all the space it would need against the Wildcats.

Robinson had three players score more than 15 points, led by Carson Earps’s 19 points and 12 rebounds. Kerry Thomas added 17 points, while Jeremy Lasseter scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Gee Clark led Palestine with 11 points, while C.J. Barrett scored 10 and Sheldon Watson scored seven points and pulled down seven rebounds.

The loss brought a disappointing end to an overly successful season for the Wildcats, who made the program’s first playoff appearance since 2006, charting its first playoff win since 2005.
