ATLANTA - The Atlanta Rabbits exploded for 41 points after halftime - 28 coming in the third period - to rally for a 53-35 win over the Tatum Eagles on Friday.
Tatum raced out to a 14-0 lead in the opening stanza on a 5-yard run by LeMarcus Harmon and a 6-yard TD run by Cedric White.
Atlanta countered with a couple of second-quarter touchdowns when Leighton Henson dived in from 1-yard out after a blocked punt set the Rabbits up in good field position and another on a 2-yard run by Kelton Young.
Tatum stayed in front with a 4-yard run by Shay Rodgers 3:15 into the third quarter following a blocked punt, but Atlanta reeled off 28 unanswered points to go on top to sty.
Henson threw TD passes of 46 yards to Trin Taylor and 29 yards to Desmond Webster, adding a 27-yard TD run. Jawan King also sprinted 60 yards for a score with 1:27 to play in the quarter, and the Rabbits led 40-28.
Harmon’s 12-yard run with 10:50 to play in the contest pulled the Eagles to withing 40-28, and Jordan Smith returned an interception for a 40-yard pick six 40 seconds later to make it a 40-35 contest.
The Rabbits closed it out with a 68-yard TD run from Kelton Young and an 11-yarder by Dontay Casey to make the final 53-35.
Tatum (4-2) will visit Diboll, and Atlanta (4-1) will visit Pittsburg on Friday.
