Apaches knock off ASA

 

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Shaun Stocker scored on a penalty kick with eight minutes remaining in regular and the Tyler Junior College defense held strong in register a 1-0 win over ASA (New York) on Monday in an opening game of the NJCAA Men’s Division I National Soccer Tournament.

The Apaches, the defending national champions, improved to 17-3, while the physical ASA squad fell to 8-7-3.

The PK was ruled when theAvengers had a handball inside the box.

TJC takes Tuesday off before playing at 2 p.m. (CST) Wednesday against Schoolcraft (Michigan).

If the Apaches win on Wednesday, they will advance to the semifinals on Friday.
