Apache Ladies fall to Howard


ST. GEORGE, Utah - No. 8 Tyler Junior College fell behind early and could not rally, falling to No. 9 Howard 12-6 in a first round game on Wednesday in the NJCAA Division I National Softball Tournament.

TJC (50-18) plays an elimination game against No. 16 seed Snead State (Alabama) (30-40) at 6 p.m. (Central) on Thursday.

Snead State fell to No. 1 seed Butler (Kansas), 9-1, on Wednesday. Howard (47-12) meets Butler at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Apache Ladies fell behind 8-0 before scoring five runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to pull within 8-6.

However, the Hawks scored a single run in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull away.

Haille Weber belted a home run for the Apache Ladies, a three-run shot in the fourth. Weber also added a single.

McKenzie Peet had a double and a single with Makenzie Goswick adding a double.

Other Apache Ladies with hits were Kaycie Moore and Makenzie Chatham.

Other RBIs were from Rebecca Snow and Chatham.

Leadoff hitter Madoline Seumalo led the Hawks with two home runs and two RBIs.

Megan Darling, Kaylynn Lopez and Mariah Young each had two hits for Howard.
