SUN CITY — The Tyler Junior College Apaches scored an easy win in the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Invitational on Tuesday at Cowan Creek Golf Club.
The Apaches, led by medalist Brandon Rougeau, ran away with the team title. TJC scored a 36-hole total of 575 (284-291). Host Mary Hardin-Baylor was second at 586 (298-288), followed by Northwood at 599 (296-303). Jacksonville College played 10th with a 630 (324-306).
Rougeau opened with a sizzling 5-under 67, followed by a 1-under 71 for a 36-hole total of 6-under 138. For the tournament, he had 10 birdies.
Two other Apaches finished in the top 10 — Charlie Cameron was runner-up behind teammate Rougeau and Ben Page was tied for 10th. Cameron was one shot back with a 139 (71-68), while Page had a 148 (73-75). Cameron had eight birdies.
Other TJC finishers were Tim Nichols (T15, 73-77—150), Logan Hayes (T29, 74-80—154) and Cory Sammons (33, 77-78—155).
Jacksonville golfers included Neriah Brown (T29, 77-77—154), Will Langston (34, 81-75—156), Matthew Hance (T35, 79-78—157), Logan Reagan (48, 87-76—163) and Trey Manis (T57, 90-84—174).
The Apaches’ next tournament is Oct. 7-8 at the Sam Houston State Invitational at Ravens Nest Country Club in Huntsville.
