Tyler Junior College, led by medalist Marco Maldonado, captured first place on Monday in the Al Jones Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament held at Hollytree Country Club.

The tourney was a 36-hole, one-day event.

TJC won with a 575 (293-282), followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor (289-287-576), host UT Tyler (285-293-578) and Concordia (303-292-595).

The tournament featured 14 schools.

Maldonado fired a second round of 66 for a 36-hole total of 139. Jarrod Brown of Mary Hardin-Baylor was runner-up with a 140 (72-68). Tying for third was UT Tyler's George Toone (69-72-141) and Nate Gray of California Lutheran (70-71-141).

Other members of the TJC squad are: T8, Henry Bryden (74-71-145); T13, Oliver White (71-76-147); T13, Cameron Brown (75-72-147) and T33, Garrett White (78-73-151).

Joining Toone on the UT Tyler team were: 6, Brandon Rougeau (72-70-142); T8, Sam Hill (72-73-145); T25, DJ Godoy (72-78-150) and 68, Harris Butler (83-83-166).

In the women's tournament at The Cascades Golf & Country Club, UT Tyler leads with a 315.

The Patriots are followed by Concordia (320), California Lutheran (325), Southwestern (329) and UT Dallas (332).

There are 11 teams entered in the women's event, which is a 36-hole, two-day tournament.

Chloe Barnes of California Lutheran leads the medalist race with a 75.

UT Tyler's Morgan Loth is tied for second with Concordia's Shelby Allen as both carded 76s.

Other members of the Patriots team are: 8, Taylor Denton (78); T10, Stephanie Tutt (80); T14, Amy Cox (81) and 24, Emily Hoffman (84).

The second and final round is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
