Funeral services for Jerry Maurice Bacon, age 72 of Lindale, are scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Rev. Ron Byrd and Bro. Larry Haun will officiate. Jerry will be laid to rest at Scenic Haven Cemetery in Jacksonville. Jerry went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 17.
Jerry was born on October 11, 1947, in Jacksonville to Murphy and Monnie (Staton) Bacon. He developed a passion for horses at an early age, and was an accomplished equestrian through the course of his life. He graduated from Jacksonville High School class of 1966, and served in the U.S. Army from 1975-1979. He returned to college after the Army, graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1980. Jerry was an Agriculture Science teacher and Special Education teacher for 22 years. He also earned a Master's degree in Education from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1990. He worked as a Meat Safety Inspector for the Texas Department of Health after leaving the classroom. Later in life, he enjoyed working at AutoZone as a parts Sales Manager until his health forced him into retirement. He was an active member of Swan-Wood Springs United Methodist Church, serving on the church council and on the Trustees committee. Prior to serving at Swan UMC, he was a 20-year member of University Christian Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Molly Long Bacon; daughter Amy Bacon of Palestine, sons Michael Bacon (and wife Launa) of Palestine and Dylan Bacon of Lindale, and daughter Whitney Bacon of Lindale. He is survived by granddaughters: Mackenzie Calloway of Palestine, Avery Bacon of Palestine, and Austyn Bacon of Palestine; sister Linda Phillips (and husband Olen) of Jacksonville; brother James "Duck" Bacon (and wife Doris) of Jacksonville and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Jax, his favorite dog and fur buddy.
Pallbearers will be Michael Bacon, Dylan Bacon, Billy Bacon, Britt Bacon, David Westbrook, and Benny Killion.
Visitation will begin on Friday, November 22 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Autry Funeral Home; friends and family are cordially invited to attend.
Dad, you have sacrificed and served and battled; now your fight is over. Rest in the arms of the Lord, and we will see you soon by the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We love you.
