AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Authorities say 28 fugitives on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list were arrested last year and tips played a role in the captures.

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Thursday said 13 of those arrests involved suspects who are convicted sex offenders. Officials also paid about $63,500 in rewards to tips that led to the wanted individuals.

DPS Director Steven McCraw says anonymous tips from private citizens are an indispensable part of the program.

Gov. Rick Perry has declared January as Crime Stoppers Month in Texas.
