SALADO, Texas (AP) — Izzy the kangaroo is back at her warm home after spending two nights in the cold Central Texas woods after escaping her cage.
Louise Whitaker says she had just put Izzy in a new cage in front of her house in Salado (suh-LAY'-doh) Wednesday and left for a couple hours before returning to find the cage door open and Izzy gone.
For the next two days and nights, the animal was spotted in the woods around Salado but hopped away whenever approached. Whitaker says Izzy has been an indoor pet, and she feared for the kangaroo's well-being because of the recent cold and sleet.
Finally, about 7 p.m. Friday, someone spotted Izzy in woods near home and called Whitaker, who came running. She arrived, and Izzy came running to her.
