AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — Authorities are urging Texas residents to secure their personal information after police found stolen documents during a traffic stop.
Amarillo police on Monday afternoon pulled over an SUV for a traffic violation. An officer arrested the driver after finding a bag with suspected methamphetamine on the floorboard.
Authorities later found at least 150 identifying documents inside the vehicle, including driver's licenses, car titles, check stubs, applications for license plates and passports. Several counterfeit $10 bills also were discovered.
The 38-year-old was booked into Randall County jail on several charges that include forgery and possession of a controlled substance.
Police warn residents that documents left in garbage containers are vulnerable to those who will wrongly use the personal information.
