The Dumas Demonette varsity wrestling team won the Texas State 5A Dual Championships this past weekend. The Demonette wrestling program is in its fourth year in existence and is working on building its own wrestling legacy in Dumas. This past weekend’s win will be a big part in their history as it is their first of many to come.

The Demonettes went 3-0 against the competition. They defeated Azle 48-21 with eight out of 12 wrestler picking up the win.

The Demonettes followed with a 54-15 victory over Lubbock High with nine out of 12 girls competing coming away with the win.

Dumas went into the championship round against Richmond Foster 2-0 and came away with a dominating 54-12 victory. 10 out of the 12 wrestlers came up with the win for the Demonettes.

Berkley Funderburg, Elaina Morgan and Audi Pichardo all went undefeated; Funderburg was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.

The Demonettes will take the mat again when they host a Triangular against Amarillo High and Boys Ranch Thursday, Jan. 26.
