The East Texas State Fair is 52 days away and preparations have already started.
“This year the East Texas State Fair will feature more live music than ever before,” said Cody Rosenbalm, director of marketing of the Park of East Texas. “The biggest addition this year is Countryfest, a music-festival type event featuring two Saturdays packed with live Texas Country music.”
The Countryfest concert lineup starts Sept. 23 from 2:30-10:30 p.m. starring Kevin Fowler, Rick Huckaby, Jeremy McComb, Gary Kyle and Chris Colston.
On Sept. 30 from 2:30-10:30 p.m. entertainers will include William Clark Green, Ray Johnston Band, Dalton Domino, Drew Womack and Kylie Rae Harris.
In addition to the bigger name entertainers, the fair will have the MetroPCS Community Stage, a place for local talent, school groups, and others in the community to perform.
Apart from the musical entertainment, the fair will feature the usual attractions such as the carnival rides, food, exhibits, petting zoo and competitions. However, there also will be some new attractions, such as a show that will feature 10 Bengal and Siberian tigers and a world-renowned street artist ARCY, who will create lifelike murals with nothing but spray paint. ARCY will attempt to create 10 of his murals in 10 days during the fair.
For thrill-seekers, this year’s fair will feature the biggest ride in its 100-year history. The ride known as the Sling Shot features a capsule holding two riders who are released from a giant “sling shot” over 150 feet in the air.
“With several new attractions and the addition of Countryfest we are expecting one of the best fairs yet,” Rosenbalm said.
