The American Cancer Society will host “You Call the Shots,” an educational forum focusing on HPV vaccinations, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, 11937 U.S. Highway 271, on Friday.
The forum is part of the American Cancer Society’s Mission: HPV Cancer-Free Texas initiative, which is aimed at increasing preteen vaccination rates for human papillomavirus (HPV).
The forum will be an opportunity for health care professionals and parents to learn about HPV-related cancers, how to eliminate vaccine hesitancy and how to reach an 80% completion rate by 2026, according to a news release from the American Cancer Society.
HPV vaccination is cancer prevention, since HPV is a common virus that can lead to cancer in some people, according to the news release. The HPV vaccine can protect children from six different types of cancer later in life, it said.
Forum speakers will include Dr. Tracie Calloway; Dr. Tiffany Hill; Jeff Johnson, a head-and-neck cancer survivor; Dr. Stephen Rydzak; and Dr. Erich Sturgis.
