A northern Smith County fire destroyed a garage and two acres of grassy pasture Monday afternoon.

Winona Fire Capt. Ryan Thomas said firefighters were called to the 11300 block of County Road 313 East between 1:35 and 1:40 p.m.

When they arrived, a structure, believed to be a shop or garage, already had been destroyed by fire, Thomas said.

The fire also burned about two acres of grassy pasture. Crews created a plow line around the grass fire to prevent further spreading.

The homeowner was home, but was not in the shop, Thomas said.

Jackson, Red Springs and Winona volunteer departments responded to the scene and no one was injured.

The fire is under investigation by the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office.
