Crime scene

The Smith County Sheriff's Office has identified the family members shot Monday in a double murder-suicide at their Winona home.

Olivia Monteagudo, 14, an eighth grader at Winona Middle School, her mother, Karen Monteagudo, 47, and her father, Vincent Monteagudo, 55, were found dead at a house in the 900 block of Dallas Street after authorities were dispatched for a welfare check.

Sheriff's office investigators determined Vincent Monteagudo was the shooter, according to a news release from the office.

Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said Monday during a news conference at the scene that Winona ISD notified an older child of the Monteagudo's of Olivia's absence from school.

He said the older child was not able to contact the family and asked authorities to conduct a welfare check at the house.

Deputies and the Precinct 4 Constable found the victims in the house with gunshot wounds.

The bodies were taken to Forensic Medical in Tyler for autopsies.
