Update: Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle in Cherokee County identified

Rusk Police Department is investigating a wreck that killed a pedestrian Wednesday. 

According to Rusk Chief of Police Jamie Campbell,  officers responded to a call about a wreck involving a pedestrian at around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Highway 69 North, and arrived to find 21-year-old Devin Clackley desd and lying in the road. 

Witnesses say Clackley was attempting to cross US Highway 69 when an 18-wheeler drove past her. She then crossed the road, not seeing a black sports utility vehicle behind the semi-truck. According to Chief Campbell, the black SUV killed her on impact.

Campbell said the driver of the SUV stopped, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. 

According to Rusk police department, the investigation is ongoing.

Clackley's body has been sent to Tyler for an autopsy.
