Residents of Tyler and surrounding areas in House District 6 will gather in Austin Monday as part of a statewide effort to support House Bill 2, the omnibus pro-life bill filed in the current special session, according to a statement from state Rep. Matt Schaefer's office.

The group will gather at the state capitol prior to a 7 p.m. pro-life rally on the south steps of the capitol. The rally will feature former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, along with several pro-life leaders from around Texas.

More information about the rally can be found at

Schaefer, R-Tyler, is excited about local residents supporting HB 2 in Austin, according to the statement.

"I support the right to life and I support safety for women," Schaefer said in the statement. "This bill is important in addressing both of those concerns. I am pleased that many people from my district will join me in Austin in support of these bills."

Local residents are invited to meet beforehand in Schaefer's office, Capitol Extension office E1.406. Signs in support of life will be available to use at the rally, and belongings also may be stored in Schaefer's office during the rally.

Pro-life attendees are encouraged to wear blue, and to bring snacks and water. People who are able to carpool are encouraged to do so, as parking is expected to be crowded.

Parking is available in the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage at 1201 San Jacinto St. between Trinity and San Jacinto streets at 12th and 13th streets. Metered parking is available throughout the capitol complex. Other parking garages are at the Doubletree Hotel, 303 W. 15th St., west of the capitol; the Bob Bullock State History Museum, 1800 N. Congress, north of the capitol; and the Wells Fargo parking garage, 400 W. 15th St., west of the capitol.
