The Tyler Police Department is searching for an armed man who carjacked a woman.

According to police, the man demanded the 19-year-old female Tyler Junior College student’s vehicle keys while holding her at gunpoint just before 10 a.m. Monday in a Tyler parking lot at 1101 E. Lake St. He then fled north on Fleishel Avenue in her 2016 maroon Chrysler 200.

The department was looking for a tall, skinny black male in his 20s wearing a white long sleeve shirt. The Texas license plate number is MLJ-4674, according to the news release.

He approached the victim while she was parking the car in the parking lot. The victim reported no injuries during the incident, the release stated.

UT Health East Texas confirmed in a media statement the victim was not a patient or employee. She was parking in the lot to attend a class nearby.

Security has increased at the East Lake Medical Plaza and around the hospital campus, according to the statement.

“The safety and security of patients and employees is a top priority,” the release said.

Anyone with information should contact the police department at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers at 903-597-2833. Crimestoppers will give up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest or charges filed against the man.
