A Tyler man has been indicted on two intoxication manslaughter charges in connection with a Jan. 9 wreck that killed his passenger and a motorcyclist.

Tommy Joe Allen, 61, was arrested July 3. In the wreck, Allen’s pickup struck a motorcycle from behind. The motorcyclist, Michael Anthony Gonzalez, 26, died at the scene despite the efforts of emergency responders. Allen’s passenger, Susan Allen, died later at a Tyler hospital from her injuries, according to a Tyler Police Department news release.

Investigators said Allen had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash, according to his lab results.

Allen and Gonzalez were driving south on South Broadway Avenue before midnight on Jan. 9 when Allen struck Gonzalez’s motorcycle as he was slowing down for a red light at Amherst Drive and Broadway. Allen was driving at a high rate of speed, according to the preliminary crash report.

Allen was a part of Sept. 26 Smith County grand jury indictments. He is being held in the Smith County Jail on bonds totaling $1 million.
