Dennis Metcalf

A Tyler man has been charged with murder in Henderson County.

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said Dennis Odell Metcalf, 40, admitted to shooting a 24-year-old Murchison man shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Metcalf surrendered to Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies after the incident in the 21000 block of Easy Street in the Forest Grove subdivision of Chandler.

Witnesses said there was no indication of an altercation between the two men and no immediate signs the two knew each other before the shooting, Hillhouse said in a news release.

The sheriff’s office said the men did not reside at the address where the shooting occurred.

The victim’s name has not been released. His body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy, Hillhouse said.

Metcalf remained in custody at the Henderson County Jail on Thursday on a $1.5 million bond.

The Texas Rangers and investigators from the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office assisted the sheriff’s office in the investigation.
