Tyler man arrested, charged with aggravated robbery; police said he punched relative and stole bat

A 35-year-old Tyler man was arrested Saturday after police said he walked into a relative’s home, punched a disabled family member in the chest and threatened to kill her. 

The Tyler Police Department said the man picked up a bat and used it to punch the relative, then left the residence and took the bat with him, according to police. Officers then spotted the man walking down the street. 

Tyler police arrested Bobby Ray Thompson and charged him with aggravated robbery.

He was booked into the Smith County Jail about 11 p.m. Saturday and is being held on a $50,000 bond, according to Smith County Jail records.

Thompson's legal issues in Smith County date back to 2000, according to judicial records.
