School isn’t back in session yet for Tyler Independent School District, but that didn’t stop thousands of families all over the district from going to middle school this week.

Tyler ISD hosted middle school Meet the Teacher and tailgating events at its five middle school campuses on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The annual events gave incoming sixth graders a chance to meet their teachers and get acclimated to the district’s middle schools, which can be intimidating at the larger schools such as Moore, Three Lakes and Boulter.

Seventh and eighth graders got a chance to pick up their schedules, find their classes without having to stress on the first day of school and learn more about resources for the year.

Caldwell Arts Academy, which will become a full K-8 Arts Magnet, is adding seventh grade this year. The school hosted an event for new families on Tuesday and has a Meet the Teacher for the entire school set for Thursday.

Elementary school campuses across the district will host Meet the Teacher events on Thursday. To find time frames for events at individual campuses, visit TylerISD.org and select a campus from the “Our Schools” drop-down menu.
