The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce will present its annual Senior Health and Living Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Harvey Convention Center, 2000 W. Front St.
Senior citizens and caregivers who attend the event will be given information about local hospitals and senior living facilities.
Attendees also will be able to receive information about opportunities relating to finances, entertainment and volunteering. Health and memory screenings also will be available.
Henry Bell, chief operating officer at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, said about 50 vendors will be at the event, which is titled "Your Health is No Game," and follows a game show theme.
Bell said the event is held to inform seniors and their caregivers about anything seniors may have a need for. Vendors will have information about topics such as investing and estate planning along with continuing education and health care.
"Seniors will hopefully learn about what (is out there) to help make their lives better in the community," Bell said.
The expo is free and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Bell said the vibe of the come-and-go event would be very relaxed. He added that the chamber holds the event because seniors are a very important part of the local economy.
"Seniors are an important part of our economic makeup," Bell said. "Retired people have a lot of resources. Some of them bring new wealth to the community. They also have a lot of valuable time that they can volunteer to the community and help it grow."
