Turn Tyler Pink returns to downtown Tyler on Oct. 11

Tyler firefighters are painting the town pink for breast cancer awareness Tuesday.

The Turn Tyler Pink Cancer Awareness event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday on the T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler. The event is free.

Numerous booths will have information about cancer awareness and early detection.

Carter BloodCare will have its mobile blood bank at the event and anyone who donates blood will receive a coupon for a free Turn Tyler Pink T-shirt. There will also be two mobile mammogram units at the event promoting breast cancer awareness and spreading the word to get screened frequently.

The event will feature the Mabank firefighter clowns, face painting, interactive booths, food trucks and more.

"As in past years, we work to add more booths, more pink decorations and more activities for the public," Tyler Firefighter Steve Countryman said. "We hope to raise funds and increase awareness towards the cause, while educating people in a fun environment."

The pink C.A.R.E. Fire Truck will also be on display at the event. Survivors, along with friends and families of those affected by cancer, are encouraged to add their signatures to the fire truck during the event.

Tyler firefighters will be wearing their pink uniforms through Wednesday, Oct. 12, in support of this event.

Tyler Firefighter C.A.R.E. shirts will be available at the event, in addition to the following Tyler locations:

Gallery Main Street: 110 W. Erwin St.

Holiday Inn: 5701 S. Broadway Ave.

Carter BloodCare: 815 S. Baxter Ave.
