Tim Lee, executive director of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, will be keynote speaker to the Smith County Retired Teachers Association at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Plyler Instructional Complex, 807 W. Glenwood.
Lee has worked on public pension policy for 15 years. He began his career as an advocate for public education retirees in 1996 when interning with the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA).
By April of 1997, Lee was picked to lead IRTA as executive director, a position he held for eight years. In 2004, Lee was recruited by TRTA to take over the fast-growing association.
Lee will discuss the 84th Texas Legislative Session and preliminary plans for the 85th Legislative Session, which will convene in 2017 with a focus on health care for retirees and active public school employees. He will also discuss how TRTA is working with Congress to address the Social Security Windfall Elimination Provision.
