Fifth grade students from Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary School in Tyler received a glimpse of college life recently as they participated in The University of Texas at Tyler's Swoop University.
Swoop University is a leadership development program designed around the Social Change Model of Leadership Development that teaches concepts of self, group and community. Students had the chance to work together, tour the campus and learn about values and personal responsibility.
"Swoop University is the first of its kind for UT Tyler and is a great partnership with Jack Elementary School," Chase Ragland, coordinator for leadership and service at UT Tyler, said. "We love getting to see the fifth graders in our community experience college for a day and interact with college students and staff. We strive for them to leave UT Tyler with the tools to know who they are as a leader as well as the drive to one day be a thriving college student!"
This is the third year of the partnership between UT Tyler and Jack Elementary School.
