The weekend is filled with Texas Rose Festival events. The 81st Texas Rose Festival — Cirque de la Rose — continues in Tyler through Sunday.
Presiding over the circus-themed pageantry are Rose Queen Kathryn Elizabeth Peltier, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peltier, Duchess of the Texas Rose Festival Kathleen Sinclair Bertram, daughter of Mr. and Harold Kenneth Bertram, and Texas Rose Festival Association President Preston L. Smith.
The Rose Show will be on view 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday in Rose Garden Center. It features more than 10,000 blooms.
The Queen's Coronation, the presentation of the queen and her court, will take place at 2 and 7 p.m. today in the Cowan Center at The University of Texas at Tyler. The presentation will culminate with the entrance of Rose Queen Peltier. Tickets are available through the Cowan Center box office.
On Saturday, the Rose Parade steps off at 9 a.m. at Glenwood and Front streets and ends in Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. A pre-parade show in the stadium also begins at 9 a.m. The parade will feature more than 120 entries, including new floats paying tribute to life in East Texas.
The Queen's Tea will take place 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Rose Garden. It is an opportunity to meet the queen and her court and see their coronation attire up close.
Saturday marks the opening of the Rose Festival Arts and Crafts Sale & Plant Sale in Bergfeld Park. The sale will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The Palette of Roses Art League holds its show in conjunction with the festival. The paintings will be on view 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Saturday in Tyler Civic Theatre Center's Braithwaite Theater at 400 Rose Park Drive, located just north of Rose Garden Center.
For the first time, American Rose Society, the nation's largest rose organization, is holding its national convention in conjunction with the festival. Its display of rose arrangements will be on view 1 to 5 p.m. on today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in Rose Garden Center.
Chamblee Rose Nursery on U.S. Highway 69, north of Tyler, will offer guided tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on today and Saturday. Tours and presentations also will take place today and Saturday at the Rose Garden.
