This year's Taste of Jacksonville will feature entertainment and a variety of local food, the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce recently announced.
The 15th annual event, held in conjunction with Tailgating at the Tomato Bowl, is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce St. It will take place before the Jacksonville High School homecoming football game.
Chamber Project Coordinator Kayla Stephenson said the event gives Jacksonville businesses a chance to showcase their offerings.
According to a news release, participants are: Beverly's Country Kitchen, Brookshire Brothers, Chicken Express, Chili's, Dairy Queen- South Jackson Street, Dog & Spud, East Texas Medical Center-Jacksonville, Helping Others Pursue Enrichment, Kiepersol Enterprises, Pizza Hut of East Texas, Posados, Sadler's Kitchen and Catering, Stacy's Bar-B-Q, Subway, Super Gallo Mercado, Sylvia Mae's Soul Food, Walmart and Whataburger.
Entertainment by Boogie Butt Productions and raffles also will be part of the festivities, Ms. Stephenson said.
She estimated 400 to 500 will show up.
"I'm sure attendance will be large as always …" she said. "I just encourage everyone to come. It's a great fun community event. … It's good for your whole family."
She said discounted tickets can be purchased in advance, and everyone is encouraged to get them beforehand.
Discounted tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger.
In the past, ticket proceeds from Taste of Jacksonville have gone toward lighting up Hazel Tilton Park during the holidays. However, Ms. Stephenson said proceeds this year will help cover the cost of the event.
