Suspect arrested for assault in Whitehouse stabbing


WHITEHOUSE - Whitehouse police officers responded to an aggravated assault on Tuesday.

Officers were advised that the caller had been threatened over the phone. 

While en route, officers were told by dispatch the suspect, Joseph Lee Bryant, 52, had stabbed a person. When officers arrived they saw the victim had been stabbed in the abdomen on the right side.

Smith County Sheriff deputies and Troup police officers assisted in the search for Bryant.

Whitehouse police officers located Bryant in the backyard of a residence where he was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was transported to a Tyler hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
