New, affordable housing could be coming to Whitehouse.
Rea Ventures Group, LLC, is eyeing more than seven acres on Texas Highway 110, across from Hagan Road, for a garden style three-story apartment complex, according to City Manager Kevin Huckabee.
At this point, plans for the complex, proposed as Abbington Place, include more than 70 units — one-, two- and three-bedroom — with amenities such as a microwave, refrigerator and energy-efficient appliances. Rent would vary, depending on income, Huckabee said.
He said among the planned site amenities are a computer center, community garden, picnic area and exercise fitness center.
A site plan would eventually need to go before the planning and zoning commission, Huckabee said, but in the meantime, the Whitehouse City Council has already shown its support for the proposed housing project.
Although the project has not been funded at this point, the city’s support is helpful in those efforts, said Sean Brady, vice president of development with Rea Ventures Group.
“We’re very thankful they felt that way, (and) we think it’s going to do quite well. ... If it’s funded,” he said.
Brady expects construction to begin by the end of 2014 if funding is in place.
