A man being held on a $500,000 bond Monday in the fatal shooting of his father told authorities he believed the elder man was sexually assaulting family members.
Jason White, 40, told Smith County Sheriff deputies he and his father, 60-year-old Steven Lacy White, argued before the shooting.
According to the arrest affidavit, Jason White told investigators that he believed his father had sexually assaulted family members.
Authorities were called Saturday to the home in the 13700 block of Eastside Road in regard to a man with chest pains. After arriving at East Texas Medical Center, medical personnel determined Steven White had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He died as a result of the injuries.
The affidavit states that when deputies arrived at the home after learning the man had been shot, Jason White walked out with his hands in the air saying, “I shot him.”
“Jason stated that his father was saying that he was the papa, and this was his property, and that he would see (family children) if he wanted,” the report states.
The affidavit further states Steven walked down a hill toward his son but did not appear to be threatening nor did it appear he was going to assault his son.
However, Jason said he grabbed a .20-gauge shotgun, loaded a shell and fired once at his father.
“Jason stated that he shot his father in the chest,” the affidavit states.
