The Tyler Police Department and several other Smith County law enforcement agencies made a total of 18 driving while intoxicated arrests, with four search warrants for blood obtained, on Labor Day and several days leading up to the holiday.
The no-refusal holiday weekend was held in Smith County Sept. 2-5, during which all suspected drunken drivers were asked to take a breathalyzer test or blood test.
If they said no, officers were able to obtain an immediate search warrant signed by a judge on call to have blood drawn by a nurse or staff at the Smith County Jail.
According to a news released from the Tyler Police Department, during the no-refusal event in Smith County the Texas Department of Public Safety made 11 DWI arrests, the Tyler Police Department made four DWI arrests, the Bullard Police Department made one DWI arrest, the Lindale Police Department made one DWI arrest and the Smith County Sheriff’s Office made one DWI arrest.
