Smith County agency receives grant to help with home repairs

Smith County Habitat for Humanity has received a $12,100 matching grant from the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation.

The grant will be used to provide critical home repairs for disabled individuals. Repairs will include accessibility modifications and will address health and/or safety conditions in the homes.

Utilizing grant funds, Habitat will assist approximately four households in 2016 in Smith County who are at or below 50 percent of the area median family income. This ranges from an annual income of $22,000 for one person to $41,450 for a family of eight.

The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation awarded a total of $302,500 in matching grants to 25 nonprofit partner agencies, including seven Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
