SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - The Smith County Sheriff's Office launched a "new and much improved" website Monday.
The new website will provide the public with up to date information as to what is going on in the Smith County Sheriff's Office. There are numerous pages showing photographs of command staff, support staff, jail staff, detectives as well as other employees of the Sheriff's Office.
The website is set up so as anyone viewing the website can send emails to any of the above mentioned Sheriff's Office employees by simply clicking on their photograph or a link under their photograph.
This website is completely responsive which means it can be viewed correctly on a Smart phone, I Pad or desk top computer. The website will adjust to fit the device being used to access it.
This new website was designed by Group M7, a website designer located in Tyler. Sheriff Smith Said his support and command staff have spent a great deal of time providing information for inclusion in the website.
Sheriff Smith believes that the avenues the public have to communicate with the Sheriff's Office employees have been lacking in the past and he has been working diligently to improve them. Many of the employee's office telephone numbers are listed below their names as well.
Sheriff Smith has also provided a link to "Contact Sheriff Smith". This link sends an email directly to Sheriff Smith as well as his Administrative Assistant.
There are links on the site related to "Duties of a Sheriff", Important links to sites such as the Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County, Victim's Services Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the Texas Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Registry, the Texas Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Administration Local Task Force, Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crime Task Force and many others.
There are also shortcuts to Tip 411 which the Sheriff's Office uses for citizens to anonymously report tips related to criminal activities. Code Red is also included on the Home Page of the Sheriff's Office website by which citizens can opt in to the Code Red program where they can be contacted when major crimes or major events regarding citizen's safety occur.
This is done by the Sheriff's Office Communications located at the Emergency Operations Center pushing out information to the public regarding incidents of many types of emergencies. The website can be used to contact the particular detective that is investigating a case for you.
Their office telephone number is available without having to be placed on hold while querying through a phone tree. You can also click on the detective's photograph or name and send them an email regarding any new information on your case.
If you have visited our website in the past at smith-county.com/sheriff, you will now be able to access the new website via the same address. The Smith County IT Department has been working along with the Sheriff's Office to assist in making this new website a success.
The website begins with "A Message from Sheriff Larry R. Smith" on the Home Page as well as the Mission Statement of the Smith County Sheriff's Office. The website is also linked to the Sheriff's Office FaceBook page.
The website is fully functional as of today and additional information will be added in the near future.
