Search underway for missing fisherman east of Palestine

ANDERSON COUNTY - A search is ongoing for a missing man on a private lake in Anderson County, just east of Palestine.

Game Warden Mike Hansen said an unidentified man in his 30s was fishing from his boat Saturday evening on Circle R Lake off County Road 358, just behind his home. When he did not return, his wife called authorities Sunday morning.

“There was some communication between him and his wife on Saturday evening, and from those communications, he indicated he was coming back to the house,” Hansen said. “Unfortunately, he never made it to the house.”

Hansen said the search began around 10 a.m. Sunday. Multiple organizations helped in the search to find the missing man, including the Palestine Fire Department, Palestine Fire Department Dive Team, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the 84 East Volunteer Fire Department.

The 84 East Volunteer Fire Department Chief Alan Fox was on the scene Sunday morning and all day. He said searchers found the victim’s fishing poles, seat cushion, paddle, life vest and cooler.

Authorities confirmed the man is in his 30s, but still have not released any more information about his identity.

The investigation is expected to resume at 7 a.m. Tuesday. Anyone with information is urged to call the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office at 903-729-6068.
