The Tyler Police Department is searching for a Salvation Army red kettle that was stolen in front of a Tyler Walmart Tuesday evening.
Tyler Salvation Army Director of Development Cindy Bell said a pickup pulled up to the Salvation Army’s kettle stand and threw it in the back of truck and drove off.
The driver was found by the police, but the kettle was not, Bell said.
The theft occurred at about 6:30 p.m. at 450 SSE Loop 323 in Tyler. Bell said there was an estimated $500 to $600 inside the kettle.
Kettle theft happens occasionally, but it’s unusual for someone to steal the entire stand, Bell said. She added that the schedule for ringers at the Walmart will continue as scheduled.
