East Texas River Runners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation and education, will host the 23rd Annual Neches Wilderness Canoe Race on Aug. 3.

The 22-mile race begins at the dam on Lake Palestine and ends near Jacksonville. More than 150 participants of all skill levels are expected, said Kim Zemer, president.

Registration is taking place now and can be done online at necheswildernessrace.com.

Security and shuttles are provided and canoe rentals are available, Zemer said.

Money raised at the race helps fund college scholarships.
