The Republican Party of Cherokee County hosted their 2020 President’s Day Dinner in Jacksonville on Saturday, February 15. The event was held at The Legacy where Lieutenant Colonel Allen West, known as “The Old School Patriot”, served as guest speaker.
Lt. Col West served in the United States Army for 22 years where he received many honors including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, one with Valor device, and a Valorous Unit Award.
West is a Fox News Contributor, Senior Fellow of the Media Research Center, former Director of the Booker T. Washington Initiative (BTWI) for the Texas Public Policy Foundation, and author of Guardian of the Republic: An American Ronin’s Journey to Family, Faith and Freedom, Hold Texas, Hold the Nation: Victory or Death, and the forthcoming We Can Overcome: An American Black Conservative Manifesto.
In 2016, Lt. Col. West was appointed by Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick to the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.
Republican Party of Cherokee County Chairman and event organizer John Earle said he was excited to bring Lt. Col. West to Cherokee County.
“I had gone to a dinner in Rusk County to hear him speak and wanted to bring him to Cherokee County. I think he is a great speaker because he is retired military and has been a Fox News contributor. At the Rusk event he spoke on keeping Texas Red which is a very important subject at the moment.” He said.
Kim Felt, who has attended the dinner the last three years with her husband Richard, said supporting the party was very important to them.
“We attend to support the conservative and Christian values and we are concerned about the socialism penetrating our politics. We want to financially support our local Republican community.” She said. “We both attend the Cherokee County Republican Party Club and Cherokee County Republican Women meetings. Rich has been the Vice President for the Club and I am currently the Women’s Club secretary.”
More than 200 guests attended the event which also included live music by the Honorable Mitchell Shamurger and Dave Davis along with a silent auction.
VIP guests were invited to attend a Meet and Greet starting at 5:30 pm. followed by the general session and dinner at 6:30 pm.
The invocation was given by the Honorable Judge Chris Davis. The Pledge of the Flags was led by Ted Wheeler and National Anthem by Joe Simalonda.
