Chandler first responders and a concerned citizen helped rescue a woman who was found inside a submerged vehicle Friday in the Neches River in Chandler.

Through the efforts of a police officer and a good samaritan, a woman was rescued from her submerged vehicle that was found in the Neches River in Chandler.

According to the Chandler Police Department, officer Johnny Foster responded to a call about the submerged car at about 7 a.m. Friday. Foster arrived at Chandler River Park and found the vehicle with a woman still inside.

With the car moving further into the deeper water, Foster and a concerned citizen ran into chest-deep water to save the woman, who appeared to suffering from a medical emergency that caused her to end up in the river, police said.

The police department thanked Foster, Chandler Fire & Rescue and the citizen who assisted Foster for their life saving efforts.

“This passerby acted unselfishly and initiated this rescue by calling 911, they have the gratitude and appreciation of the Chandler Police Department for their efforts,” the department’s Facebook post said.
