KILGORE — Police continue their investigation into the shooting death of a man Sunday afternoon as he answered the front door of his home.
Kilgore Police Assistant Chief Roman Roberson said when officers responded to the 300 block of Rogers Street Sunday afternoon they found Franciosa Lakeete Jackson, 36, dead in the front yard of the residence.
Roberson said a witness reported a black man between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt flee the scene after the shooting.
"The subsequent investigation revealed the suspect came to the door of the residence at 323 Rogers St. and asked for Mr. Jackson by name. Mr. Jackson and the suspect spoke in the front yard for a short time before family members heard gunfire and found Mr. Jackson deceased," he said.
Roberson said the victim appeared to have suffered at least one gunshot wound, but an autopsy will be performed by the Forensic Medical Management of Texas in Tyler as ordered by Gregg County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Mathis.
Roberson asked for the public's assistance by sharing any information they may have regarding the shooting.
