The public is invited to take part in Independence Day festivities at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Everything kicks off at 6:30 p.m. July Fourth at the church, 13590 Texas Highway 110 South.

Event organizer Debbie Hooton said hot dogs, water, chips and watermelon will be served, followed by live entertainment from the band "Branded" at 7 p.m.

Also at 7 p.m., illusionist Joe Schmidt is scheduled to start shows in the KidStreet Building, she said. Other features of the holiday celebration are giveaways, face art, snow cones, a bungee jump and a bounce house, among other things.

Additionally, Ms. Hooton said, a military tribute will occur prior to the fireworks show, which begins at dusk.

"We want to keep it a family-friendly atmosphere where families can come and watch a great … fireworks show and have a good time on our campus," she said.

She said the event is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good item to benefit the hungry. She also encouraged residents to get there early to park, as the event usually draws an estimated 4,000 or 5,000 people.
