A Tyler business and nonprofit have partnered to help bring sight to blind people in West Africa.

Dr. Neisha Rudd, optometrist and owner of Today's Vision in Tyler, recently joined forces with Lewis Swann, executive director of the nonprofit Believe & See, to launch the "You See, They See" program in Tyler.

Through the program, $1 of each eye exam performed in Dr. Rudd's office will be donated to Believe & See to perform eye surgeries in Togo, West Africa. These surgeries include sight-giving cataract removals, according to a news release.

In addition to the donation, each patient will hear about the gift and the Believe & See ministry.

They will be challenged to match or exceed the donation made because of their eye exam.

In its first two years of existence, Believe & See has performed 531 eye surgeries and can provide full cataract surgeries to Africans for $95, according to the news release.

Dr. Rudd and Swan estimate that with the donations made through this partnership, as many as 50 blind people will receive sight in the first year.

More optometry offices could be brought on board with the program in the future.
