Whitehouse resident Janette Gillespie, the oldest living Alumna of TCU, has died. She was 107.

According to care givers at her residence, Mrs. Gillespie died Feb. 6 in her bed with her daughter and son-in-law by her bedside.

Her death comes just days after the Tyler Morning Telegraph profiled her for its Jan. 31 issue.

According to Shanna Kennedy, activity director for Oak Brook in Whitehouse, Mrs. Gillespie died peacefully in her sleep.

"Legacy hospice staff was here and extremely helpful to the family," Ms. Kennedy said. "She will be thought of and remembered by many, and we will plant a rose bush in her name in the spring."

When Mrs. Gillespie was asked her secret for living to be 107, her answer was, “The good Lord, good family and good food.”
