The city of Tyler is installing a new a multi-way stop at the intersection of North Bonner Avenue and West Oakwood Street on March 21. Along with installing stop signs, crews will be placing stop bars and other pavement markings around the intersection.
“This five-way intersection has always been problematic because of its complex geometry,” Peter Eng, traffic engineer said. “There are inadequate sight distances for Oakwood approaches due to the horizontal and vertical curvatures south of the intersection. An all-way stop would enhance safety for pedestrians and drivers alike and will also reduce potential accidents.”
The work is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. and last roughly until 1 p.m. Drivers should expect delays in the area due to random lane closures. Once the work is complete, the stop signs will have flags up for several weeks to get citizens accustomed to the new multi-way stop.
